Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about using WAssistant.

General

What is WAssistant? +
WAssistant is a free utility app that provides tools for WhatsApp. Its main feature lets you start a WhatsApp conversation with any phone number without saving it as a contact first. It also includes QR code generation, shareable chat link creation, vCard generation, and OCR-powered phone number extraction from images.
Is WAssistant free? +
Yes, WAssistant is completely free to use. The app is supported by non-intrusive ads. There are no premium tiers, subscriptions, or hidden fees. All features are available to every user.
Is WAssistant affiliated with WhatsApp? +
No. WAssistant is an independent, third-party utility tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or officially connected to WhatsApp Inc. or Meta Platforms, Inc. It uses WhatsApp's public wa.me link format, which is a feature WhatsApp makes available to everyone.
Where can I use WAssistant? +
WAssistant is available in two ways: as an Android app on the Google Play Store, and as a web app at wassistant.site. The web version works on any device with a browser — including iPhones, iPads, Windows PCs, and Macs. The core phone-to-chat feature works identically in both versions.

Privacy & Security

Is my phone number saved or shared? +
No. All phone numbers you enter are processed entirely on your device. WAssistant simply constructs a wa.me link and opens it — nothing is sent to any server. We do not store, log, or transmit any phone numbers or personal data.
Does WAssistant access my contacts? +
No. WAssistant does not request or use contact permissions. The entire point of the app is to avoid needing to save contacts. Your address book remains untouched.
What data does WAssistant collect? +
WAssistant uses Firebase Analytics to understand which features are most popular (anonymous usage metrics). This helps us improve the app. We do not collect any personal information, messages, phone numbers, or contact data. You can read our full Privacy Policy for complete details.
Is the camera permission safe? +
Yes. The Android app requests camera access only for the OCR (text recognition) feature, which extracts phone numbers from photos of business cards, screenshots, or signs. All image processing happens locally on your device using Google ML Kit. No images are ever uploaded or transmitted anywhere.

Features

How does the phone-to-chat feature work? +
You enter a phone number (with country code, like +1 for the US or +966 for Saudi Arabia), and WAssistant opens a WhatsApp chat with that number directly. Under the hood, it creates a link using WhatsApp's official wa.me format and opens it in your browser, which then redirects to WhatsApp. The other person doesn't need to have saved your number either — WhatsApp allows incoming messages from anyone.
What is the QR code generator for? +
The QR code generator creates a scannable QR code that, when scanned, opens a WhatsApp chat with your specified number. This is useful for businesses — you can print the QR code on receipts, business cards, table tents, or your storefront window. Customers can scan it with their phone camera and start chatting with you immediately.
What are chat links and how do I use them? +
Chat links are wa.me URLs that open a WhatsApp conversation when clicked. You can optionally include a pre-filled message. For example, a link might open WhatsApp with the message "Hi, I'd like to book an appointment" already typed. You can add these links to your Instagram bio, website, email signature, or share them on social media.
How does OCR text recognition work? +
OCR (Optical Character Recognition) uses your device's camera or gallery to scan images for phone numbers. Point your camera at a business card, a billboard, a receipt, or a screenshot, and WAssistant will detect any phone numbers in the image. You can then tap the detected number to start a WhatsApp chat. All processing uses Google ML Kit and runs locally — no data leaves your device.
What is vCard generation? +
vCard is a standard format for sharing contact information. WAssistant can generate a vCard file (.vcf) from a phone number and optional details (name, email). You can then share this file via WhatsApp, email, or any other app. The recipient can open it to save the contact to their phone with one tap.

Troubleshooting

The chat doesn't open in WhatsApp. What's wrong? +
Make sure that: (1) WhatsApp is installed on your device, (2) you've entered the phone number with the correct country code (e.g., +1 for US, +44 for UK, +966 for Saudi Arabia), (3) the number is a valid WhatsApp-registered number. If you're using the web version, your browser will try to open WhatsApp Web or the desktop app. If neither is installed, you may see a WhatsApp download page.
Do I need an internet connection? +
You need an internet connection to use WhatsApp itself, but the WAssistant link generation works offline in the Android app. The web version at wassistant.site requires an internet connection to load.
Does the other person see my number? +
Yes. When you start a WhatsApp conversation using WAssistant, it opens a normal WhatsApp chat. The other person will see your phone number and profile, just like any other WhatsApp message. WAssistant does not provide anonymity — it simply removes the need to save contacts before chatting.
